POWER RANGERS (2017): Bryan Cranston Joins As Zordon

David Fielding Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

Bryan Cranston joins the cast of Power Rangers as Zordon. The Academy Award-nominated Trumbo and Breaking Bad star will play the imprisoned mentor of the titular heroes in the planned  film.

Originally portrayed by voice actor David Fielding, Zordon became known to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fans as the Rangers’ insightful guide. Trapped between dimensions after defeating the wicked alien sorceress Rita Repulsa eons ago, Zordon only appears as an incorporeal face hosted inside an energy tube from which he communicates with the Rangers. Whether Cranston’s likeness will be used to depict Zordon or if he will simply be providing the voice for a computer-generated image is unknown at this point.

The Power Rangers cast includes Dacre Montgomery (A Few Less Men) as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott (The 33) as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G (Empire) as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin (Monster Hunt) as Zack the Black Ranger, and Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect, The Hunger Games franchise) as Rita Repulsa.

Directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac), Power Rangers is written by John Gatins (Kong: Skull Island, Real Steel), Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Dracula Untold), Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class, Thor), and Max Landis (Chronicle). Producers are Power Rangers creator Haim Saban, Brian Casentini, Wyck Godfrey, and Marty Bowen (The Twilight Saga, The Fault in Our Stars, The Maze Runner franchise).
