Malin Akerman In Negotiations To Play Villain In Rampage

Watchmen star Malin Akerman is in the middle of talks to join the cast of New Line Cinema‘s video game adaptation Rampage.

While she is probably best known for her role as Silk Spectre in Watchmen, the Swedish actress has noteworthy appearances in a number of other projects. She had supporting roles in the cult classic comedy Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle as well as 2007’s The Brothers Solomon and 2008’s 27 Dresses, and most recently had a leading role in indie drama The Ticket.

If Akerman ends up signing on to the project, she will appear alongside Dwayne Johnson and Naomie Harris. Reportedly, the role she is being eyed for is described as “a calculating head of a tech company that is behind the monsters”. Interestingly, the character that most closely matches this description, the first game’s Eustas DeMonic, is a male.

Superherohype, the source of this story, shares the following about the film’s cast and production team:

The cast also includes Joe Manganiello, Marley Shelton, Jake Lacy, PJ Byrne, Jack Quaid, Matt Gerald and Breanne Hill. The movie is set to begin shooting in Atlanta in April.

This will mark the third collaboration between Johnson, producer Beau Flynn, director Brad Peyton and New Line, having worked on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and San Andreas together as well. The latter film earned over $473 million at the global box offices, making it the most successful original blockbuster of summer 2015.
