Resident Evil Will be Rebooted and Produced by James Wan

It was bound to happen and it happened this quickly. Resident Evil will be remade into a new film. The Paul W. S. Anderson‘s Resident Evil film franchise (six films) made over one-point-two billion dollars world-wide. Production company Constantin Film and distributor Screen Gems, if they retain their respective roles from the previous Resident Evil franchise, were not going to leave that much potential money on the table.

James Wan, who will be producing the first film in the potential new six film franchise, will have his production company, Atomic Monster, produce the new horror film alongside Constantin Film.

Greg Russo wrote the current script for the Resident Evil reboot but there are no details on its characters or setting at this point.

My hopes for the new Resident Evil film series is that it is actually: scary, thrilling, with an engaging narrative, and vibrant character arcs. I know, I am hoping for too much i.e. the Let the Right One In of zombie films. I am reaching for the stars. Since nothing has been filmed yet, I will continue to dream.

The original Resident Evil film series was based on the Resident Evil video game series:

Resident Evil, known as Biohazard…in Japan, is a survival horror video game-based media franchise created by Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara and owned by the video game company Capcom. The franchise focuses around a series of survival horror video games, but has since branched out into comic books, novels, novelizations, sound dramas, live-action films, animated sequels to the games, and a variety of associated merchandise, such as action figures. The series’ overarching plot focuses on multiple characters, and their roles in recurring outbreaks of zombies and other monsters, initially due to the release of the T-virus, but still more biological weapons over time, created mainly by the fictional Umbrella Corporation and various other organizations in later games.

The last Resident Evil film, entitled Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, starred Milla Jovovich, Shawn Roberts, Lee Raviv, Eoin Macken, Rola, Joon-Gi Lee, Fraser James, Siobhan Hodgson, Ali Larter, Ruby Rose, Iain Glen, William Levy, and Vian Singleton.

No release date has been disclosed for the first Resident Evil reboot film.
