Jackson is being considered for the role of Reverend Charles Jacobs, a devious man of the cloth who serves as the antagonist to Jamie Morton, the lead character. No actor has been attached to that role yet. The book on which Revival is based is described as follows:
“In a small New England town, over half a century ago, a shadow falls over a small boy playing with his toy soldiers. Jamie Morton looks up to see a striking man, the new minister. Charles Jacobs, along with his beautiful wife, will transform the local church. The men and boys are all a bit in love with Mrs. Jacobs; the women and girls feel the same about Reverend Jacobs—including Jamie’s mother and beloved sister, Claire. With Jamie, the Reverend shares a deeper bond based on a secret obsession. When tragedy strikes the Jacobs family, this charismatic preacher curses God, mocks all religious belief, and is banished from the shocked town.’
The film will be the latest in a series of major roles for the prolific actor. Jackson has roles in The Legend of Tarzan and Tim Burton‘s Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children, both set for release later this year, as well as next year’s xXx: The Return of Xander Cage and Kong: Skull Island. It is also likely that he will reprise his role as Nick Fury in Marvel‘s Avengers franchise, although no appearances have been confirmed at this time.
