R.I.P. New Line Cinema

newline.jpgThe studio that brought us Glengarry Glen Ross, Seven, the Blade Trilogy, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Nightmare on Elm Street films will be disbanded, dismembered and absorbed into its big brother, Warner Bros. The two heads of New Line Cinema, Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne will be losing their jobs as will most of New Line’s 600 employees. New Line will now become a genre arm of Warner Bros. with Warner taking control of all of New Line’s distribution duties. Poor decisions regarding the Rush Hour and Rings trilogy along with a “stagnant stock” price precipitated this consolidation by Jeff Bewkes, president and CEO of Time Warner Inc.
