RISING STARS: MGM To Adapt Comic Book Series Into Film

Rising Stars Comic

MGM Options Film Rights for Comic Book Rising Stars. Superheroes are the latest trend in Hollywood, and the comic book series Rising Stars is about to be a part of the craze as MGM has already optioned the rights to adapt the Top Cow publication into a film.

Deadline reported that screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski’s comic book Rising Stars was picked by MGM to adapt into a superhero film. The series, which ran from 1999 to 2005, had a big delay in the last few issues due to Michael’s dispute with Top Cow over a potential movie deal. However, it all worked out for them and now Straczynski is writing the script. Atlas Entertainment’s Alex Gartner and Richard Suckle is producing the project alongside Straczynski.

The comic book follows 113 children who were born with unique abilities after a mysterious meteor hits Illinois. When some of them get murdered, their powers get transferred to still-living ‘specials’ who are trying to follow the path of a superhero.
