SHERLOCK HOLMES 3: Robert Downey Jr. Ready To Return

Robert Downey Jr Sherlock Holmes

Robert Downey Jr. reveals talks are under way for Sherlock Holmes 3. The Academy Award-winning Tropic Thunder and Iron Man star is eager to reprise his role in the detective series based on the Arthur Conan Doyle books.

Some might be surprised by the news, given that it’s been five years since the last installment in the Sherlock Holmes franchise, A Game Of Shadows, came out. According to Downey, however, headway is finally being made on the final movie in the series, with shooting reportedly starting as early as this year:

“We’re talking about it right now,” said Downey Jr. “We can do some preliminary stuff. If we could shoot it on Skype, we could have the whole [movie] done in a week. When we’re making those ‘Sherlock’ movies it is off the hook. [So] we’ll attempt to make one this year. It really is a big deal to go and do those movies. I’m tired all the time, but I’m so excited about it.”

Downey is not the only series veteran to have confirmed work is underway on a new film. Producer and co-writer Lionel Wigram previously announced that he collaborating with Drew Pearce on a script for Sherlock Holmes 3:

“We’re working on a ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ script” Wigram explained. “I think we would all love to do one if we could come up with something that really was really going to knock it out of the park and was going to be the best of the three. So we’re working on that – it’s quite hard to do.”
