2014 FALL PROGRAMMING OVERVIEW
THE AFFAIR (New Series)
1 hour, 10 episodes
Premieres: Sunday, October 12th at 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT)
The upcoming one-hour SHOWTIME drama series, THE AFFAIR, stars Golden Globe® nominees Dominic West (The Wire) and Ruth Wilson (Luther), as well as Emmy® nominee Maura Tierney (ER) and SAG Award® nominee Joshua Jackson (Fringe). THE AFFAIR explores the emotional and psychological effects of an extramarital affair. The provocative drama will be told separately from the male and female perspectives – using the distinct memory biases to both misdirect and intrigue. Wilson plays Alison, a young woman waiting tables at a popular Hamptons diner, trying to piece her life back together in the wake of a tragedy. Her husband Cole (Jackson) struggles to keep it all together, with his wife and with the financially-strained ranch that has been in his family for generations. Their emotionally-charged marriage becomes even more complicated when Alison begins an affair with Noah (West), a New York City public school teacher and aspiring novelist who is spending the summer at his in-laws’ estate out on the island. Tierney plays Helen, Noah’s college sweetheart, best friend, mother of his children, lover and wife of 17 years. Award-winning playwright and writer/producer Sarah Treem (House of Cards, In Treatment) wrote the original script from a story co-created with Hagai Levi. They first worked together on the American adaption of Levi’s show In Treatment. Treem and Levi will both serve as executive producers, along with director Jeffrey Reiner (Friday Night Lights) and Eric Overmyer (The Wire).
HOMELAND (Season 4)
1 hour, 12 episodes
Premieres: Sunday, October 5th at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT) – Two hour premiere
HOMELAND, the Emmy® and Golden Globe®-winning hit drama series will premiere the first two episodes back-to-back on Sunday, October 5 starting at 9pm ET/PT. Produced by Fox 21, Season Four finds Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) assigned to a new post, Chief of Station at the US Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan. On the front lines of the war on terror, she is tasked with protecting US interests in the region from forces within the Taliban. Her mission pulls her into the complex dichotomy between international diplomacy and clandestine operations. Along with Danes, Mandy Patinkin, Rupert Friend, Tracy Letts and Nazanin Boniadi will return for season four, and joining the cast of series regulars this season will be Laila Robins. Guest stars include Suraj Sharma, Corey Stoll, Raza Jaffrey and F Murray Abraham.
WEB THERAPY (Season 4)
½ hour, 10 episodes
Premieres: Wednesday, October 22nd at 11:00 p.m. (ET/PT)
Season four brings top film and television stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Jon Hamm, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Matthew Perry (the fourth ‘Friend’ to appear on the series), Allison Janney, Lauren Graham, Craig Ferguson, Calista Flockhart, Dax Shephard, and Marie Claire Creative Director Nina Garcia into Fiona’s narcissistic world. Additionally, series co-creator, executive producer and Emmy Award winner Dan Bucatinsky will reprise his role as Fiona’s old assistant Jerome, along with returning guest stars Billy Crystal, Lily Tomlin, Rashida Jones, Victor Garber, Julie Claire, Jennifer Elise Cox and Tim Bagley.
This year, it seems everyone has achieved the fame and fortune that Fiona has been striving for, except, well… Fiona herself. Her husband Kip (Victor Garber) has been appointed to a prestigious judgeship, her mother Putsy is basking in the success of a bestselling exposé, her old assistant Jerome and secretary Gina (Courtney Cox) are now undeserving trust-fund millionaires. Striving to reverse this trend and get the recognition she so rightly deserves, Fiona rebrands her modality, expands her Web Therapy franchise, and begins “treating” an increasingly crazy set of new clients, many of whom fail to grasp that when the doctor is in, what can you do for her? WEB THERAPY is created by Kudrow, Don Roos & Dan Bucatinsky for Is or Isn’t Entertainment. Bucatinsky and Kudrow serve as executive producers. Roos continues to serve as director.

SPARK: A BURNING MAN STORY
Premieres: Thursday, August, 21st at 8:00 p.m.
Each year, a week before Labor Day, Burning Man’s “Black Rock City” rises from the dust of an ancient lakebed (fondly referred to by the participants as “the Playa”) to become Nevada’s third-largest population center, an ephemeral metropolis with few regulations and no commerce. It’s a “pop-up” city of tens of thousands of strangers who unite around 10 Core Principles – commandments, if you will, like “Decommodification,” “Participation” and “Radical Inclusion.” The Playa’s harsh desert, its citizens, formidable infrastructure, ritual, art, music and technology combine to give Burning Man a sort of community and culture like none other on earth. Through the use of compelling archival footage and interviews with the event’s co-founders, in SPARK: A BURNING MAN STORY, filmmakers Steve Brown and Jessie Deeter provide us a compelling, behind-the-scenes look into Burning Man’s history and its ongoing evolution today.
COCAINE COWBOYS RELOADED
Premieres: Friday, September 5th at 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT)
In the 1980s, ruthless Colombian cocaine barons invaded Miami with a brand of violence unseen in this country since Prohibition-era Chicago – and it put the city on the map. Cocaine Cowboys is the true story of how Miami became the drug, murder and cash capital of the United States. But it isn’t the whole story. Utilizing hundreds of hours of additional interviews and recently uncovered archival news footage, Cocaine Cowboys has been Reloaded: packed with footage and stories that have never been told about Griselda Blanco, the Medellín Cartel, and Miami’s Cocaine Wars, with firsthand accounts by hitman Jorge ‘Rivi’ Ayala, cocaine trafficker Jon Roberts, smuggler Mickey Munday, and others. COCAINE COWBOYS RELOADED recreates Miami’s Cocaine Wars like you’ve never experienced it, with over two thirds of its running time devoted to previously unseen material.

After ten years as a band, and five critically acclaimed albums, they were finally enjoying wider recognition. Lead singer Matt Berninger invited his younger brother, Tom, to join the tour’s crew. A budding horror filmmaker, Tom – who is nine years younger than Matt and listens exclusively to heavy metal – decided to bring his camera along. Tom’s at sea in the world of indie rock, and living in his brother’s shadow brings out the younger sibling in him – he drinks, complains, and struggles to balance his ambition with his tour responsibilities. The result is a film about brothers and about making something of your own.

A music documentary that premiered at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival, LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND: SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA’S FINAL TOUR follows the breakup of Swedish House Mafia and their subsequent One Last Tour. Director Christian Larson captures the band in a unique fly-on-the-wall manner as they call it quits and seek closure by going on the tour they had always dreamed of. With breathtaking live moments, huge laughs and dark lows, the band starts to unravel why they came to the decision to end the biggest achievement of their lives to date to save their friendship. The film maps out three of the biggest stars in a scene which has gripped youth the world over and the psychology of the band. A film not to be missed.
Premieres: Wednesday, October 29th at 7:30 p.m. (ET/PT)
When Louis Ortiz shaved off his goatee one day in 2008, his life changed forever. He looked in the mirror and he didn’t see himself – a middle-aged, unemployed Puerto Rican father from the Bronx. He saw the face of change, of hope… of money. BRONX OBAMA tells the strange and improbable tale of a Barack Obama impersonator who tries to cash in on the “look of a lifetime” and chases a fevered American dream from opportunity to oblivion.
Filmmaker Ryan Murdock’s debut feature film has been in the making for nearly three years, as he intimately documented Ortiz’s transformation during Obama’s first term and the 2012 election season. Murdock has rolled out this story in multiple parts – first as a 36-minute radio piece for NPR’s This American Life, then as a short film for The New York Times. The 90-minute feature documentary reveals a host of new characters; a manager who pushes Ortiz hard to “become Obama,” a seasoned “Bill Clinton” who dispenses advice, and a hard-working “Mitt Romney” who bets it all on his newfound career. Murdock captures unexpectedly hilarious moments along this Twilight-Zone-esque campaign trail while delving deep into the question of what it means to be someone you’re not.
LOST SONGS: THE BASEMENT TAPES CONTINUED
WORLD PREMIERES: Friday, November 21st at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT)
LOST SONGS: THE BASEMENT TAPES CONTINUED, which is produced by Oscar® winner T Bone Burnett and Sam Jones and directed by Jones, chronicles the recording of new music from long-lost lyrics penned by legendary songwriter Bob Dylan. The documentary is an exclusive and intimate look at five of today’s most acclaimed artists – Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops), Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), Jim James (My Morning Jacket) and Marcus Mumford (Mumford & Sons) – as they create music for two-dozen recently discovered lyrics written by Bob Dylan. The Grammy®-winning songwriter penned the songs in the summer of 1967 during a creative period. A rare look inside the creative process of recording an album and the discovery of long-lost Dylan lyrics, LOST SONGS: THE BASEMENT TAPES CONTINUED captures this unprecedented musical collaboration between these musicians and 13-time Grammy winner Burnett, as they record these newly completed compositions in Hollywood’s famed Capitol Studios. Jones, who directs the film, weaves these studio sessions into a broader narrative that incorporates the stories behind the original Basement Tapes, expounding on their cultural significance and charting their enduring influence. The premiere coincides with the release of the Burnett-produced studio album on Electromagnetic Recordings/Harvest Records (Capitol Music Group). LOST SONGS: THE BASEMENT TAPES CONTINUED is a film and recording collaboration by Sam Jones and T Bone Burnett. Carol Cohen also serves as producer of the film.
They’re gods. They’re rock stars. They’re the ultimate fantasy. They are the men of LA BARE. Directed by actor Joe Manganiello (who was inspired by his role in Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike), this unscripted film goes behind the curtain, behind the stage and behind the magic of the world’s most popular male strip club – La Bare Dallas. Featuring a unique ensemble of the club’s most popular dancers, LA BARE takes a provocative look into their rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle and offers a front row seat to their lives, loves, laughs and losses.
STOP AT NOTHING: THE LANCE ARMSTRONG STORY
This is an intimate but explosive story about the man behind the greatest fraud in sporting history. Lance Armstrong enriched himself by cheating his fans, his sport and the truth. But the former friends whose lives and careers he destroyed would prove to be his nemesis.
At the film’s heart is a portrait of a man who will stop at nothing in pursuit of money, fame and success. It reveals just how Armstrong duped the world with his story of a miraculous recovery from cancer to become a sporting icon and a beacon of hope for cancer sufferers everywhere; how his cheating, bullying and lying become more and more extreme as he attempted to crush his opponents on and off the bike; and how a few brave souls refused to bow to his indomitable will, resolutely fighting back, putting their own fate in the balance as they became outcasts, derided and humiliated until eventually their voices were heard.
The film reveals how Lance Armstrong’s cheating was the focus of a grand conspiracy – a giant heist in which Armstrong, his backers and sponsors sought to steal one of the greatest sporting events in history and enrich themselves to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars at the expense of fans, the sport and the truth. It also shows what happens when a small, close-knit group of friends shares a secret and how that secret corrodes their bonds of friendship until they turn on each other in a desperate fight for the truth, destroying marriages, careers and lives. In STOP AT NOTHING, Armstrong’s friends and enemies speak candidly for the first time about the man at the center of the greatest fraud in sporting history.
THE LAST ONE
WORLD PREMIERES: December 1ST – In honor of World AIDS Day
In the ‘80s and ‘90s, as the gay community was being ravaged by AIDS, families and friends of the dying fought a public battle to find treatment and understanding. The AIDS Memorial Quilt was conceived, “…as a weapon against not only the disease but the cruelty and bigotry that the disease exposed,” according to one of its founders, Cleve Jones. Today the Quilt is a handmade testament to both the struggle of the early days of the epidemic and its continued impact today, as panels representing lives lost to the disease continue to stream in from all over the world. THE LAST ONE is a feature-length documentary that frames the quest to sew the last panel into the Quilt, representing the end of AIDS.
Through archival footage, vérité scenes and interviews with founder Cleve Jones, self-described “Hand Maiden of the Quilt” Gert McMullin, and other early volunteers and panel makers, THE LAST ONE uncovers the birth of the AIDS Memorial Quilt and its subsequent impact on politics, science and the media. Through activists like Patricia Nalls and Regan Hoffman, the film explores the role the Quilt continues to play as a response to a disease that, while treatable for some, still affects vulnerable communities around the world.
PAULY SHORE STANDS ALONE
WORLD PREMIERES: December
In this touching and funny documentary, comedian Pauly Shore (Encino Man, Son in Law, MTV’s Totally Pauly) takes a film crew on the road as he tours Wisconsin and Minnesota, playing venues in small towns across each state and entertaining a cult following of fans who have stayed loyal to him since his heyday in the ‘90s. In between clips of his stand-up routine, Shore talks about his life outside of comedy, showing a vulnerable, tender side to his personality and giving the audience a rare opportunity to see the man behind the persona. Between caring for his ailing mother, selling his childhood home, reflecting about his upbringing in the famous “Comedy Store”, and deciding whether or not to have a baby, Shore does some deep soul searching…nevertheless as with any Pauly Shore film, the jokes are never far behind.
