SILENCE (2016) Movie Image: Liam Neeson In Martin Scorcese Film

Silence Movie Image Released

Silence Movie Image Released. I thought I was up to date on any and everything the big, important filmmakers are up to, always. Tarantino has a western coming out, Spielberg just released his cold-war thriller, Fincher had Gone Girl and is busy with television, Boyle‘s latest sadly flopped, Scott‘s sci-fi adventure conquered the country, and Nolan is quietly working on his next feature. I’m shocked, that I had no idea about Martin Scorcese‘s next picture, whatsoever, until today, when the first movie image was released.

According to Slashfilm, “his next film is a long-gestating passion project, the adaptation of Shûsaku Endô‘s book Silence, and it’s slated to arrive sometime late in 2016.”

Regarding the narrative, “Young Portuguese Jesuit Sebastião Rodrigues is sent to Japan to succor the local Church and investigate reports that his mentor, Fr. Cristóvão Ferreira, has committed apostasy. (Ferreira is a historical figure, who apostatized after torture and later married a Japanese woman and wrote a treatise against Christianity.)

Fr. Rodrigues and his companion Fr. Francisco Garrpe arrive in Japan in 1638. There they find the local Christian population driven underground. Security officials force suspected Christians to trample on fumie, which are crudely carved images of Christ. Those who refuse are imprisoned and killed. The novel relates the trials of the Christians and increasing hardship suffered by Rodrigues, as more is learnt about the circumstances of Ferreira’s apostasy.”

Silence also stars Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, Ciarán Hinds and Tadanobu Asado.

I grew up in Hamburg to a German father and Ecuadorian mother. Obsessive student of film, Hip-Hop, and stand-up comedy. I love the dark dreambox that is the cinema auditorium. I love mountains and the ocean, but am equally exhilarated by the jungle of the city. I hope to one day create something that hits someone in the brain with thunderous effect.
