SNOWPIERCER: TV Series Adaptation Green-lit at TNT starring Jennifer Connelly
Snowpiercer TV series green-lit at TNT
TNT is moving forward with the long gesticulating Snowpiercer TV series adaptation. TNT ordered a pilot episode of Snowpiercer in November 2016, directed by Scott Derrickson and written by Josh Friedman. Evidently, TNT liked what they saw so much that a full TV season of Snowpiercer has been ordered.
TNT has had great success with their adaptation of the novel that The Last Ship is based on. I would argue that they are looking for something similar with their adaptation of Snowpiercer. This time, however, TNT hopes to reach an even broader audience. Tomorrow Studios CEO Marty Adelstein, a co-producer of the Snowpiercer TV adaptation, had this to say:
Given the exceptional global appeal of the original film, we have a tremendous obligation to ensure the TV adaptation is exceptional in scope and magnitude. We have found that with TNT and with our talented cast. Now we are excited to work together in creating a world unlike any other on television.
Some have a more holistic approach to the upcoming series and their hopes for it. TNT Executive Vice President of Original Programming Sarah Aubrey believes science “fiction is the perfect genre to examine issues of race, class, gender and natural resources with thought-provoking and exciting storytelling. Snowpiercer will explore those relevant issues while embarking on a wild, action-filled ride.”
Snowpiercer‘s plot synopsis: “Set seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centers on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually-moving train that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival are questioned in this riveting television adaptation.”
The upcoming science-fiction TV series, based on the acclaimed film by Joon-ho Bong, stars Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Benjamin Haigh, Sasha Frolova, Katie McGuinness, Alison Wright, Annalise Basso, Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand, and Lena Hall.
