Sony Greenlights THE EQUALIZER 2 for 2017

Denzel Washington Will Return in The Equalizer 2

Sony sets Release Date for Sequel to Antoine Fuqua‘s The Equalizer. Sony has officially given The Equalizer 2 a release date, providing complete assurance that this is actually happening. The Equalizer 2 will be released on September 29, 2017.

I haven’t seen the initial entry into this soon-to-be-franchise yet, but from what I’ve heard its a fairly average Denzel Is The Man action-thriller. I’ve seen my fair share of those, and don’t feel the need to spend time on the lesser ones. After all, can you get a cooler Denzel than the Man on Fire (2004), Training Day (2001), or American Gangster (2007) variety? In any case, Denzel Washington is set to return, no word on Antoine Fuqua yet.

On the production of the first film:

The Equalizer is a 2014 American neo-noir action thriller film directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by Richard Wenk, nominally based on the television series of the same name. It stars Denzel Washington, Marton Csokas, Chloë Grace Moretz, David Harbour, Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo.

Principal photography began in June 2013 on location and took place in different cities of Massachusetts. This was the first film to have Village Roadshow Pictures co-finance the deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment since Saving Silverman in 2001. The film was premiered at 2014 Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2014, and released worldwide on September 26.

On the plot of the first film:

In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston. When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), he finds himself face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters. As he serves vengeance against those who brutalize the helpless, McCall’s desire for justice is reawakened. If someone has a problem, the odds are stacked against them, and they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer.

I grew up in Hamburg to a German father and Ecuadorian mother. Obsessive student of film, Hip-Hop, and stand-up comedy. I love the dark dreambox that is the cinema auditorium. I love mountains and the ocean, but am equally exhilarated by the jungle of the city. I hope to one day create something that hits someone in the brain with thunderous effect.
