SPIDER-MAN (2017): Kevin Feige Talks Reboot’s John Hughes Vibe and Teases New Villains

Ultimate Spider-Man

Kevin Feige Discusses About New Spider-Man’s John Hughes Inspirations and New Villains. If you are into John Hughes’ popular high school movies, then you maybe in luck. The new Spider-Man reboot will apparently be inspired by his 80s films and introduce some new villains.

Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige talked with Birth Movies Death on how the Jon Watts-directed feature would create it’s own identity by revolving around Spidey’s supporting cast.

It’s the soap opera in high school, and those supporting characters, that are interesting. Just as we hadn’t seen a heist movie in a long time, or a shrinking movie in a long time, we haven’t seen a John Hughes movie in a long time. Not that we can make a John Hughes movie – only John Hughes could – but we’re inspired by him, and merging that with the superhero genre in a way we haven’t done before excites us.

For those who aren’t too keen on seeing the movie’s high school setting can get excited about the addition of new villains on the big screen for the first time. When asked about the new rogues being part of the film, Feige responded, “Right now we’re interested in seeing villains we haven’t seen before.”

Being a street-level hero, Spider-Man also had a few interactions with other heroes in New York like Daredevil, which has become a popular Netflix series. So the possibility of seeing the web crawler crossing over into the Netflix series can be a perfect opportunity, and Feige agrees. “My general answer to that is never say never,” Feige replied. “But our current Sony deal is very specific – we’re producing the standalone film, with a certain amount of back and forth allowed.”

So what do you guys think of this new direction for Spider-Man? Who should the new villains be? Starring Tom Holland, the new Spider-Man film arrives in theaters May 6, 2016.
