This new Star Trek series looks better than I thought it would look. I like how Vulcans are included in this trailer (and the show) but was a Vulcan lead and sub-characters really necessary, especially after Star Trek: Enterprise? There are plenty of other species in the universe. One or more of them could have been one of the focal points in this new series besides the Vulcans.

Since the Vulcans assisted humanity with its space program after making first contact, their involvement in the plot of this series was unavoidable (I guess).

I was surprised that Sonequa Martin-Green has such a prominent role in the series. I read about her casting but I had no idea how integral Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) was to the plot of Star Trek: Discovery. It was a good surprise. Martin-Green is a great actress and will be missed on The Walking Dead.

In Star Trek: Discovery, Burnham is a human that was raised by Vulcans and is referred to as ‘Number One,’ like Commander William Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

From the official press for Star Trek: Discovery:
