Rumors recently surfaced that he was reprising his role after he canceled an upcoming appearance at Texas convention Comicpalooza ‘due to filming.’ Since the convention takes place May 23-26, many fans wondered if that meant the actor would be busy with Episode VII.

On Peter Mayhew’s film career:

Mayhew, who also played Chewbacca in prequel film Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, has mainly spent his career playing the iconic character, but also appeared in the horror film Terror and did voice work in the British version of Dragon Ball GT: A Hero’s Legacy.

On Star Wars Episode VII:

Star Wars Episode VII is an upcoming American epic space opera film and the seventh film in the Star Wars film series. Filming began in April 2014, and will move to Pinewood Studios in England in the following month, with a scheduled release date of December 18, 2015. It forms the first part of the planned third trilogy of Star Wars films, following chronologically in the series 35 years after 1983’s Return of the Jedi. It will be the first Star Wars film produced since Disney acquired ownership of Lucasfilm.

J. J. Abrams is attached to direct the film based on a screenplay written by himself and Lawrence Kasdan, who acted as co-writer on The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Originally, Academy Award-winning screenwriter Michael Arndt was attached to pen the screenplay after writing a 40-50 page treatment. Arndt has since dropped out of the production, although it remains unknown whether he will be credited. Producers include Kathleen Kennedy and Abrams’ long-time collaborator Bryan Burk. Star Wars creator George Lucas will act as creative consultant on Episode VII (and other new Star Wars films). It appears likely that cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher will reprise their roles from Episodes IV, V, and VI along with a cast of younger unknown actors and actresses playing the lead roles.

It has been announced today that Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) will be set thirty years after the events that concluded Return of the Jedi. The J. J. Abrams film will also feature familiar characters and new ones as well.
