Star Wars: Episode VIII to Go into Kylo Ren’s Humanity

When we were introduced to Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we saw him struggling between the dark side and his family. When we see him again this year on Star Wars: Episode VIII, audiences will find Kylo Ren exploring his humanity, according to actor Adam Driver.

Adam Driver received positive feedback for his performance as Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens by showing a villain torn between unlocking his potential with Supreme Leader Snoke and his family’s legacy. It was at the end of the film that Ren ultimately decided to go through with his training by killing his father Han Solo. However, he was rivaled by Rey when they fought at Starkiller Base where our heroine overcame him and defeated him in combat.

We don’t know a whole lot about what Kylo Ren will be up to in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII, but Adam Driver offered to share a little bit of what his character will be going through. In an interview at Larry King Now, audiences will continue to see Ren exploring his humanity and other plot points from the previous film. “I think maybe – this is such a general answer – but you know, humanity,” said Driver. The actor also added:

Even though it’s very much a blockbuster movie, and I’m aware of that, there was no taking that for granted and that we were forced to be general [in The Force Awakens]. There was a lot of plot points that we knew were operating in the first one, that we get to explain more in the second one, that kind of make both of them make sense.

Adam Driver also explained some of the inspiration for his character came out during his discussions on war and terrorism with both his directors J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson. “But they do kind of feel socially active to me. And George Lucas originally — a lot of Star Wars was in response to Vietnam and a lot of what I remember talking about with J.J. and Rian was this idea of terrorism, and two sides being morally justified to behave however they wanted to to get whatever they thought was absolutely correct.”

Well, we can’t wait to see Kylo Ren appear on screens again later this year in Star Wars: Episode VIII. Are you guys excited to explore more of Kylo Ren in the next Star Wars film?
