Lucasfilm Confirms Woody Harrelson Will Be In Star Wars Han Solo Film

The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller announce that Woody Harrelson has officially been cast in the Star Wars franchise’s planned Han Solo movie.

Harrelson, of course, is renowned for his numerous performances on many noteworthy projects, playing lead roles in such varied productions as Natural Born Killers, White Men Can’t Jump,  Zombieland, and The People vs. Larry Flynt, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He has also had a supporting role in the highly-successful Hunger Games series, appearing in all four films of the quadrilogy as Haymitch Abernathy and is now set to appear in War for the Planet of the Apes.

Although Harrelson was previously floated as a contender for the role of Han Solo’s mentor in the planned Star Wars spin-off, the actor’s involvement was only confirmed today. Other names already attached to the movie are Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke, and Alden Ehrenreich, who will portray a young version of the laser-gunslinging mercenary.

Expressing excitement about working with Harrelson, both Lord and Miller praised his acting abilities as well as his penchant for ping pong, as Superherohype reports:

“We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody,” said the film’s directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (21 Jump StreetThe LEGO Movie). “His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique. He is also very good at ping pong.”
