STATEN ISLAND SUMMER (2014): Kate Walsh and Jim Gaffigan Join Cast

Kim Walsh Jim Gaffigan

Kate Walsh and Jim Gaffigan have joined Staten Island Summer. Walsh and Gaffigan join the coming-of-age comedy feature produced by Saturday Night Live veteran Lorne Michaels. Staten Island Summer (2014) focuses on two friends, Danny (Graham Phillips) and Frank (Zach Pearlman), as they spend their summer after high school as poolside lifeguards. The two friends’ lives are going to take different paths; one is set to enter an Ivy-League college and the other unsure of his future.

Walsh and Gaffigan will play Danny’s parents. Rhys Thomas is the director, with Michaels and John Goldwyn producing. Teen Becah Movie’s John DeLuca also stars. Other cast members include Ashley Greene, Katie Cockrell, and Kellie Crockwell.

DeLuca will play Anthony DiBuono, a young, hunky Italian lifeguard whose dream of joining the Navy seems unlikely until he forms a partnership with Danny that proves beneficial for both parties.

The Hollywood Reporter announced yesterday that John DeLuca would star in Staten Island Summer.

DeLuca most recently starred as Butchy in the Disney’s TV movie Teen Beach Movie and currently plays the recurring role of Colin Farrell on ABC’s Twisted. Following a six-season run on ABC’s Private Practice, Walsh appeared in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Scary Movie 5, and will next be seen in DirecTV’s Full Circle and the indie Dermaphoria. Walsh is repped by CAA, Evolution Entertainment and Morris Yorn.

Staten Island Summer will be distributed under the Paramount Insurge label. Production is scheduled to begin later this week in New York. Colin Jost wrote the screenplay and Anthony Wolberg has been brought on as cinematographer.

Rhys Thomas is most famous for his roles in Star Stories, The Fast Show, Sirens, and Nathan Barley. He was nominated for the Breakthrough Talent Award at the 2013 BAFTA awards for producing and directing the acclaimed feature length documentary Freddie Mercury: The Great Pretender.
