Jared Leto The Joker

Jared Leto Discusses Portraying The Joker in Suicide Squad. We are only a year away from the release of the anticipated film Suicide Squad, and among the cast fans are excited about is none other than The Joker. Jared Leto opened up about playing the character on screen.

Speaking with Billboard, Leto talked about getting the opportunity of a lifetime to play one of the most iconic villains in comic book history. “The opportunity to take on this nearly Shakespearean character — that’s what graphic novels and comic books are becoming, right?” Leto said. “[He’s] this beautiful disaster of a character — what a big challenge.”

The article also reported that Leto is gaining some weight for the role, quoting the actor saying, “Do you mind if I eat a little? I’m trying to gain a lot of weight. It means I have to eat every couple of hours — and I’m terrible at eating a lot.” We don’t know what Leto’s preparation will be when he plays the clown prince of crime, but it’s still interesting to see what his take on the character will be. Jared Leto has played dramatic roles in which he was required to either gain or lose weight for films like Dallas Buyers Club and Chapter 27.

Suicide Squad marks The Joker’s third appearance on screen since he appeared on 1990’s Batman and 2008’s The Dark Knight with Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger playing the villainous role respectively.
