SUICIDE SQUAD (2016): Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto, & More Officially Cast

Suicide Squad Film Cast Confirmed. Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, and Cara Delevingne have all been officially cast in the David Ayer directed superhero film. Will Smith will play Deadshot, Jared Leto will play The Joker, Jai Courtney will play Boomerang, Margot Robbie will play Harley Quinn, and Tom Hardy will play Rick Flagg.

On the Suicide Squad:

The Suicide Squad, also known as Task Force X (the name of a closely related but independent supervisory organization), is a name for two fictional organizations in the DC Comics Universe. The first version debuted in The Brave and the Bold (vol. 1) #25 (1959), and the second in Legends #3 (1987). An “original” Suicide Squad was later created in Secret Origins (vol. 2) #14, connecting the other Squads.

The modern Suicide Squad (created by John Ostrander and Ryan Scott in the aforementioned Legends #3) is an antihero team of incarcerated supervillains who act as deniable assets for the United States government, undertaking high-risk black ops missions in exchange for commuted prison sentences. The group operates out of Belle Reve Penitentiary, under the directorship of Dr. Amanda Waller. The Suicide Squad’s existence helps to explain why many convicted villains in the D.C. Universe roam free without having heroes tracking them down—until they, inevitably, attempt or commit another crime.

Warner Bros has firmed Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Margot Robbie for its DC Comics villain team Suicide Squad, and has set Jared Leto to play The Joker, Jai Courtney to play Boomerang and Cara Delevingne to play Enchantress in the David Ayer-directed film. Smith plays Deadshot, Hardy Rick Flagg and Robbie Harley Quinn. Most of these were reported on. Not in the studio announcement is whether Jesse Eisenberg brings his Batman V Superman villain Lex Luthor to the DC cavalcade, as I’ve heard will happen.

Ayer, coming off Fury, is scripting and the studio set an August 5, 2016 release. Charles Roven is producing with Richard Suckle and Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson and Geoff Johns are exec producers. Pic is a Dirty Dozen-type mission movie where a group of supervillains are brought together to tackle high-risk black ops missions for the government.
