SUPERGIRL: Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman Won’t Be Similar to Henry Cavill’s Version [The CW]

Henry Cavill Tyler Hoechlin Superman

Supergirl’s Version of Superman to Be Different From the DCEU. Henry Cavill’s take on the Man of Steel drew some mixed reviews from critics and fans for making him a bit too dark and gloomy. However, it appears that Supergirl’s version of the character will be lighter than that.

With Supergirl moving to The CW this fall, it was obvious that the show needed something big to draw the viewers who followed the show on CBS. With Superman into the mix, the superhero series hopes that this would be enough for fans to come see it in it’s new home. EP Andrew Kreisberg revealed to Collider some details on what’s coming in the new season. This Superman seems to be much more confident and cheerful, which contrasts to Henry Cavill’s take on Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman has donned the cape for years now and it will give an interesting spin on his adventures and how that would fit into the DC TV Universe.

I think our take on him is probably something a little bit more traditional. There’s certainly a little bit of the “Aw shucks” about him, but he’s been Superman for awhile, so there’s a savviness about him as Superman and as Clark. If he’s been Superman for 12 years, that also means that he’s been Clark Kent for 12 years. He knows how to interview somebody. He knows how to get a story out of someone. As always, with any of these things, we’re never doing a direct adaptation of a specific comic book. We cherry pick the best parts and things that we love. So, there’s a little bit of the Christopher Reeve Superman in there, a healthy dose of the Superman animated series, which we’re huge fans of, a little bit of Lois & Clark, a little George Reeves, and a little Super Friends.

For many of us, this would be the version of Superman that fans want to see. This development should definitely bring some new fans into Supergirl for it’s second season. What do you guys think?
