Producer Simon Kinberg Discusses Plans for Future of X-Men Movies

After the commercial failure of X-Men: Apocalypse, the popular Marvel franchise’s future is now in question. However, producer Simon Kinberg hinted that 20th Century Fox has plans for the X-Men franchise, including some spin-off films. With Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart leaving their characters behind, the studio has to find some new stars to keep the franchise going. We do know that New Mutants is being developed along with Gambit and X-Force, but Kinberg has some ideas of what other properties we can see in the near future. “We have a sense of where each of all of the existing characters go from Deadpool to New Mutants to the mainland X-Men movies to potentially even X-23,” Kinberg told ComicBookMovie.com. He also added:

Then, there’s other characters, like Alpha Flight, like Exiles… There’s a lot of characters to mine going forward. We’re still sort of in this phase where now we’ve completed the Wolverine story with Logan and we begin hopefully with New Mutants and eventually Gambit and continue with Deadpool.

Alpha Flight follows a group of Canadian mutants who have worked with Wolverine, which includes members like Northstar, Puck, Snowbird, and Shaman. The Exiles are a new team with some murky characters, but Blink is among this team so we could potentially see a crossover with Fox’s upcoming family drama. Even though these plans aren’t set in stone with other projects previously announced going into production soon, it does give fans some idea of where the X-Men saga is going.

Mr. Sinister To Appear in the X-Men Film Universe

The X-Men villain Mr. Sinister was teased during the end of X-Men: Apocalypse when the Essex Corporation was mentioned. We saw that the company would be a part of Logan, however it turns out that the famous villain wouldn’t be making an appearance in the upcoming film. Don’t be disappointed because according to Cinema Blend, the character will indeed be coming to the X-Men universe somewhere down the line. So what kind of future do we see with the villainous Nathaniel Essex? “The short answer is yes,” Kinberg said regarding a future appearance by Mr. Sinister. “We’d love to see Sinister. I think he is one of the great untapped villains in the X-Men universe, and we do have plans to introduce him into the world.” We don’t know what those plans are, but it would be cool to see him in some of the other X-Men films coming up like Deadpool 2, X-Force, or even X-Men: Supernova. What are your thoughts on this?

Deadpool 2 Delays Production Until June

Deadpool 2 is all set to start filming this year, but we may have to wait until the summer for the film to start shooting. According to Omega Underground, the production listed Deadpool 2 with a launch date on June 19th instead of May 1. The Directors Guild of Canada gave the revised dates with shooting to finish on September 18. So what’s the delay all about? We don’t know for sure, but the film did hit a snag when Tim Miller left the sequel as director due to creative differences. David Leitch was announced to take his place in the director’s chair. There was even rumors circulating that the original writers also left after Drew Goddard was hired to do the script, but Ryan Reynolds assured fans that they are still pretty much involved in the sequel. Hopefully we don’t see any more delays for the anticipated sequel.

A Former LOST Actor Reportedly Joining The Inhumans

Casting is already underway for Marvel and ABC’s new series The Inhumans as another report has surfaced that a former LOST star is reportedly joining the series in a big role. The question is, which one in the cast nabbed the role? There’s certainly a huge cast to choose from for this show and the role hasn’t even been announced. Meet the Movie Press broke the news on their YouTube channel on the latest casting. The only cast member that’s been confirmed is Game of ThronesIwan Rheon who will play the role of Maximus The Mad. Perhaps this actor will be playing a member of the Royal family if he or she has a big role. Here’s what co-host Jeff Sneider said:

It is a veteran. I’m not going to say whether it is a man or a woman, it’s a veteran of the television show LOST. A LOST veteran, I think, is getting a big role in The Inhumans. There is like 80 people in LOST. Good luck figuring that out!

Who could the person be? Well, we have no idea at this time but share your theories with us in the comments section. The Inhumans will screen their first two episodes in IMAX theaters on September 1st before airing them on ABC on September 26.

The CW Planning Another Four-Part DC Crossover Next Season

Big things are coming next season for the DC shows on The CW as the network is planning another four-part crossover. EP Andrew Kreisberg teased that another big crossover event will be happening in the upcoming season. While all the shows got to be part of the ‘Invasion’ crossover, Supergirl only entered the event towards the end of the episode. In this next crossover, it appears that the Girl of Steel will be a major part of it. “Because we weren’t aware that we were going to switch Supergirl from CBS to CW and it was really going to be part of it — that was the one show that didn’t have built-in shut-down days, so all the other ones did,” Kreisberg told EW. He further added:

Melissa [Benoist] ended up being heavily in Flash and then in Arrow, so Supergirl was the one we needed to shut down the most and it was the one that we didn’t have any opportunity to. Now that we’ve gotten the early pickup and we’ve started designing the seasons, we’re building in those dark days, and actually more dark days on Supergirl than the other shows, to make it a little easier…  Next year, we’re hoping to do a true four-way crossover.

Until then, we have a musical crossover coming up between The Flash and Supergirl to look forward to. Are you excited to see all your heroes teaming up again for another crossover next fall?
