Henry Cavill has been cast as Superman/Clark Kent in Zack Snyder‘s Superman: Man of Steel. The 2012 Superman reboot – produced by Christopher Nolan and written by Davis S. Goyer for Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures – is seen a something more than a mere comic book movie. Zack Snyder believes that “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.” Henry Cavill is repped by CAA and a Warner Bros executive believes “He’s got an amazing quality. He doesn’t look too much like Reeve and Routh but he’s big and strong and he has a very modern feel to him…We’re really going to try and make Superman as contemporary as possible.” I’m all for that. Superman could use a successful update. Regarding Henry Cavill, I have seen him acting for years in The Tudors. “Cavill has been on the Hollywood hotlist for quite sometime. Just like it did with Christian Bale in the Batman reboot, the studio has gone with a British actor. In fact, Cavill also auditioned for the Batman role but lost out to Bale in 2005. He was even looked at for the role of James Bond, that eventually went to Daniel Craig.” If you would like a more technically biography on Henry Cavill, he is
An English actor, aged 27, theatrically trained he has had a career that many wouldn’t know about state side… Henry was also the cause of a write-in effort of fans to see him cast as Cedric in the 2005 Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The role went to Robert Pattinson. He would lose another role to Pattinson as well, not landing the lead of Edward in the Twilight series. Perhaps Superman is better route for this young actor. At one point he was being looked at for Superman/Clark Kent when McG was working on a reboot for WB called Superman: Flyby…Cavill was recently cast as Theseus in a mythic special effects and big budget film entitled Immortals (2010).
I think Henry Cavill is a cool choice to play Superman but what do you think? One thing is for sure, Cavill has many hours of gym work and oodles of notoriety ahead of him.
