THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2: Shailene Woodley cast, may get DIVERGENT

Shailene Woodley

Shailene Woodley cast The Amazing Spider-Man 2, in talks for Divergent. The casting of Shailene Woodley in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 answers the question of who will play Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel. There had been early speculation that Shailene Woodley would get the part and now its confirmed. “In the comics, the character brought to life on film…by Emma Stone is killed when Spider-Man tries to save her from the Green Goblin and accidentally kills her in the process. As we’ve pointed out, it’s a defining moment in the comic books. Well, Heat Vision says introducing Woodley as Mary Jane is indeed part of a multi-film plan to build to the Death of Gwen Stacy story in the third film.”

I haven’t seen The Amazing Spider-Man but the story arc for Part 2 and Part 3 sound very cool: the death of a major character, a defining moment, the introduction of the Goblin and a new love interest. Looks like I will have to sit down and Redbox The Amazing Spider-Man after all.

Regarding Divergent, Shailene Woodley is in talks for the lead role of Beatrice Prior in that film. Neil Burger is directing the first of the Veronica Roth young adult novel film adaptations. There is speculation and hope that Divergent will be another The Hunger Games franchise for the studio producing it. “Production is supposed to begin in March with an eye towards an early 2014 release”.

The official plot synopsis for the novel Divergent:

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she’s chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she’s kept hidden from everyone because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

What  do you think of Mary Jane Watson’s appearance and story arc in the new Spider-Man films, Shailene Woodley  playing Mary Jane Watson, and her playing the lead role in Divergent?
