The Avengers (2012): Will Joss Whedon Direct?

Joss Whedon may be in line to direct The Avengers (2012), produced by Jon Favreau. Joss Whedon has a well known comic book pedigree and has written, produced, and directed three television series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and Dollhouse.

Joss Whedon is in final talks to direct the ultimate Marvel superhero team-up flick [The Avengers]. The movie will bring together Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Nick Fury along with a handful of other lesser known heroes in order to create the comic book blockbuster to end all blockbusters. The release date has already been set for [May 4, 2012].

No offense but I would like to see Ridley Scott direct the film. The visionary behind Blade Runner would do this film some good and he can direct a battle scene. Case and point: the forest battle in the Director’s Cut of Kingdom of Heaven. Is Joss Whedon your first choice to direct The Avenger (2012)? Should someone more theatrically established be chosen?
