THE BFG (2016): First Trailer Arrives for Steven Spielberg’s Next Film

The BFG Teaser Trailer

The Trailer For The BFG Gets Released. Disney has just unveiled their first teaser trailer for their upcoming live-action adaptation of The BFG. The beloved children’s book by Roald Dahl jumps into the big screen with the help of famous filmmaker Steven Spielberg.

In the trailer, we get a voiceover from main character Sophie (Ruby Barnhill), who talks about a rumor of a big creature that lurks in the night when everyone’s asleep. The teaser gives us a glimpse at the big friendly giant himself, who is played by actor Mark Rylance. After spotting the giant from her window, Sophie hides in her bed, unaware of the big hand that is reaching for her. Based on what we saw, this looks like another family classic that Steven Spielberg will be known for after his last kids flick E.T.

Here’s what Spielberg said on adapting the beloved children’s classic:

I think it was kind of genius of Roald Dahl to be able to empower the children. It was very, very brave of him to introduce that combination of darkness and light which was so much Disney’s original signature in a lot of their earlier works like in ‘Dumbo,’ ‘Fantasia,’ ‘Snow White’ and ‘Cinderella,’ and being able to do scary, but also be redemptive at the same time and teach a lesson, an enduring lesson, to everyone, it was a wonderful thing for Dahl to have done, and it was one of the things that attracted me to want to direct this Dahl book.
