Originally released in 2006, The Departed earned an Academy Award for Scorsese as well as a nomination for co-star Matt Damon. Even 10 years after its release, the movie continues to capture the imagination of viewers, with Amazon’s decision to pursue a series based on it demonstrating the depth of its staying power:

Inspired by the films, The Departed TV series is set at present-day Chicago, amidst the shifting tides of warring ethnic drug gangs. In it, a young cop goes undercover to infiltrate a ruthless Latino gang, which simultaneously plants its own man in the police department. The show follows these two embattled moles as they attempt to fulfill their mission and stay alive.

Richman executive produces with the film’s producer Graham King; the movie’s executive producer, Vertigo founder Roy Lee; Vertigo’s head of TV Michael Connolly; Plan B’s Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Sarah Esberg; as well as Tripp Vinson, Doug Davison and Gianni Nunnari. (The film was produced by King, Plan B’s Brad Pitt as well as Brad Grey).

The Departed series, which marks WBTV’s first major sale to Amazon, stems from Vertigo’s two-year overall deal with the TV studio, which the company inked at the end of 2015. The series adaptation of the acclaimed movie was the first project the company put in development under the pact.

**** We hired Reggie, fulfilled our obligations to him, and he quit in the middle of covering two TV series w/ no notice and no explanation. He then ignored our emails asking him to complete his coverage (we had no one else to cover those TV shows). He didn't care. We regret hiring him and we regret putting our trust in him. **** An aspiring writer, longtime film junkie, and former UCLARadio.com disc jockey (where I graduated with a BA in Political Science), I've made the jump from penning book reviews and current events editorials for HonorSociety.org to writing movie and TV news and reviews. When I'm not working towards my certificate in Radio and Television/Video Production at Fullerton College, I enjoy reading (horror, science fiction, and historical/political nonfiction are particular favorites), participating in my school's TV and theatre clubs, attending movie screenings, plays, concerts, and other events, and trying to come up with pithy things to say on social media. Believe it or not, there are occasions where I find time to write for my own leisure.
