I am definitely in the minority here, and its making me question my sanity.

Quentin Tarantino lit the fire of film fandom in me when I was a young boy. After Pulp Fiction, all bets were off. I know the entire film by heart. I absolutely adore Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, and sincerely think Inglourious Basterds is a goddamn masterpiece.

When Django: Unchained was released, I felt a tinge of disappointment and branching off from the herd, however. I felt the pacing was off. The third act was muddled. It was overly long, meandering, and lost its focus. How can you top Basterds, I thought. Surely he’ll find his groove again.

Well, after a teaser and now a full trailer for The Hateful Eight, I must say that I’m not entirely convinced. I’m definitely, absolutely over the moon at this film taking place in one location. There is potential for intrigue, suspense, and tension, that Tarantino did so masterfully in Basterds (the intro scene, the tavern scene, etc). But judging from these trailers, I’m not hooked. It’s just not clicking. And I don’t know why.

Hopefully this is just a case of Weinstein Marketing, the usual Tarantino trailer not being anything special, and the movie surprising the hell out of us. What do you think?

The Hateful Eight also stars Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Walton Goggins, and Demin Bichir.

I grew up in Hamburg to a German father and Ecuadorian mother. Obsessive student of film, Hip-Hop, and stand-up comedy. I love the dark dreambox that is the cinema auditorium. I love mountains and the ocean, but am equally exhilarated by the jungle of the city. I hope to one day create something that hits someone in the brain with thunderous effect.
