THE IRISHMAN: Robert De Niro Talks About His Next Martin Scorsese Film

Martin Scorsese Robert De Niro

Robert De Niro has expressed his excitement about his next Martin Scorsese film The Irishman. The actor is very optimistic about his long-awaited reunion with the legendary director for a film that includes a stellar cast and crew.

The potential of The Irishman is simply too big to be immediately realized in full. Martin Scorsese is widely regarded as one, if not the greatest living film-maker, of all time. His best and most acclaimed works include collaborations of him and Robert De Niro – Raging Bull (1981) and Goodfellas (1990). The other famous collaborations of Scorsese are with Joe Pesci and Henry Keitel and their involvement in The Irishman is widely rumored as well. The possible involvement of Academy Award-winning script-writer Steven Zaillian is the cherry on top of the cake. The most prominent name in the cast apart from Robert De Niro, however, is Al Pacino.

The Irishman will be a gangster film and Scorsese’s best films are in that genre. Pacino and De Niro are most famous for portraying gangsters. Unfortunately the careers of both of them declined with shocking speed during the last dozen years. This is a remarkable chance for both of them to revitalize their careers and to make cinematic history with one more memorable masterpiece. So far, De Niro and Pacino have collaborated only twice. The first time was in the legendary gangster film Heat (1995), directed by the superb Michael Mann. The second time was in the critically panned Righteous Kill (2008). Now under the command of a master film-maker like Martin Scorsese, with a superb supporting cast, the two legendary actors could pull off something memorable.

On The Irishman:

[Robert De Niro] is set to portray contract killer Frank Sheeran, with Al as International Brotherhood of Teamsters leader Jimmy Hoffa and Joe as Russell Bufalino, head of the crime family in The Irishman, which is based on Charles Brandt’s book, I Heard You Paint Houses.

When it comes down to high expectations towards this film the sky should rightfully be the limit.
