THE LAST SHIP (2014) TV Show Trailer: Michael Bay’s Pandemic TNT Show

The Last Ship

The Last Ship Trailer. TNT‘s The Last Ship (2014) TV show trailer, a Michael Bay production, stars Adam Baldwin, Rhona Mitra, Eric Dane, Michaela McManus, and Alyssa Diaz. The Last Ship‘s plot synopsis” Their mission is simple: Find a cure. Stop the virus. Save the world. When a global pandemic wipes out eighty percent of the planet’s population, the crew of a lone naval destroyer must find a way to pull humanity from the brink of extinction.”

On the characters in The Last Ship:

Dane stars as Captain Tom Chandler, a career Navy man who is authoritative and decisive, but also fair and courageous. The Last Ship also stars Rhona Mitra as Rachel Scott, a strong-willed, intelligent and fearless paleomicrobiologist; Adam Baldwin as Slattery, the ship’s second-in-command who occasionally clashes with Dane’s Captain Chandler; and Tracy Middendorf as Darien Chandler, the captain’s wife.

On the people behind the season’s of The Last Ship: Michael Bay is producing the series and “his partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form serve as executive producers, along with showrunner Hank Steinberg (Without A Trace) and Steven Kane (The Closer). Steinberg and Kane wrote the series pilot, which was directed by Jonathan Mostow.”

The plot of the William Brinkley book this show is based on is significantly different from the one in the TV show:

The unimaginable horror of total nuclear war has been let loose upon the world, and only one ship, the Nathan James, with 152 men and 26 women aboard, has survived. Her captain narrates the electrifying story of this crew’s voyage through the hell of nuclear winter, their search for survivial, and the fate of mankind when they find an uncontaminated paradise.

The Last Ship reminds me of Last Resort, an excellent naval TV show that landed at the wrong television station.

The Last Ship also stars Travis Van Winkle, Tracy Middendorf, Kevin Phillips, Darren O’Hare, Charles Parnell, Chris Sheffield, Grace Kaufman, Mikal Vega, Maximilian Osinski, and Aidan Sussman.

This does sound a lot like “Last Resort.” The biggest problem I had with the show is that it was sold as science-fiction or action-adventure. It was at it’s best when it explored the complex relationships and alliances. You’re right. It would have worked on a different network. Which one I wonder?
