THE PUNISHER (2017): Ben Barnes Cast in Netflix TV Show

Ben Barnes

Ben Barnes signs on to the cast of The Punisher. The Westworld and Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian actor will play an unknown role in the Marvel TV adaptation.

Although the series is still in the early stages of production and Barnes’ role has not been disclosed, reports claim that he will portray Bobby Saint. Saint, of course, was a character played by James Carpinello in the 2004 Punisher film. The character did not appear in the original comics but was written specifically for the movie, potentially meaning the series will tie in to the film should the rumors turn out to be true.

In addition to The Punisher, Netflix has plans to produce two other Marvel-related programs: Iron Fist and The Defenders:

“For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn’t be more excited to dive into his world,” Executive Producer and Showrunner, Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal, Narcos) previously said. “After watching Jon’s performance in ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own.”

It’s unclear when The Punisher spin-off series would begin production or premiere, though it’s likely that it will arrive after The Defenders mini-series. Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos previously teased that Bernthal will be part of The Defenders earlier this summer.
