THE PUNISHER TV Series is coming to the FOX Network

Frank Castle, The Punisher

The Punisher TV Adaptation is coming to the Fox Network. Marvel‘s The Punisher TV show, TV series, whatever you wish to call it, is coming to the Fox Network. The first The Punisher movie had a fair amount of cheese but at least The Punisher was the serial killer he was in the comic book. The Thomas Jane The Punisher and The Punisher: War Zone both sucked so I was not looking forward to seeing another The Punisher film. This TV series is cool news but also unfortunate news. Its cool because the storylines of The Punisher will get explored but how can a show like this possibly be on Fox? Its too violent. This show would be great if it were on Fox’s FX Network. Look how well The Shield did on that network.

I already do not like the way the series is being described: Frank Castle moonlighting as The Punisher while still on the police force. Seems a little odd.

The official word:

The Punisher is described as an hour-long procedural with a Marvel signature and a new take on one of the comic book giant’s iconic characters, Frank Castle, a rising star detective with the New York Police Department who moonlights as the vigilante Punisher, seeking justice for those the system has failed. Bernero will executive produce along with Marvel.

…part of Fox’s return to the comic book adaptation business after the recent cancellation of Human Target. In addition to The Punisher, Fox has in the works The Spectre, a drama based on the DC Comics superhero character co-created by Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel and Bernard Baily.

Too bad Frank Castle couldn’t simply be The Punisher from the first minute the pilot airs and be taking out the trash. I am guessing ABC sold Fox The Punisher instead of developing the property themselves since their action TV series Charlie’s Angels bombed and has already been canceled.

What is good news is that someone who knows cop shows will be behind the scenes.

Ed Bernero, an ex-Chicago cop, and co-creator of Third Watch and Criminal Minds will serve as the executive producer on the series. He seems to have a talent for making cop shows so this should be right up his ally.

What do you think of The Punisher coming to the small and the new take on the character?
