The Queen of Versailles Trailer, PhotosLauren Greenfield‘s The Queen of Versailles (2012) movie trailer, movie photos stars Jackie Siegel and David SiegelThe Queen of Versailles‘ plot synopsis: “With the epic dimensions of a Shakespearean tragedy, The Queen of Versailles follows billionaires Jackie and David’s rags-to-riches story to uncover the innate virtues and flaws of the American dream.

We open on the triumphant construction of the biggest house in America, a sprawling, 90,000-square-foot mansion inspired by Versailles. Since a booming time-share business built on the real-estate bubble is financing it, the economic crisis brings progress to a halt and seals the fate of its owners. We witness the impact of this turn of fortune over the next two years in a riveting film fraught with delusion, denial, and self-effacing humor.”

This documentary looks highly entertaining.

More on the Siegels and The Queen of Versailles:

their idea of roughing it still looks like most people’s idea of living in luxury. But Greenfield’s doc seems to find a perfect balance between gawking at the obscene decadence and genuinely feeling for their troubles…While The Queen of Versailles definitely has a Real Housewives-y element of guilty pleasure to it, it’s clear that Greenfield digs a little deeper to portray Jackie and David as real people rather than vilified caricatures of the 1%.

I worked there for several years. It was an interesting ride. A lot of really good people were associated with West Gate, I wish them all the best and hope for a turnaround in the industry. It was very good to all of us.

  • What did you do at West Gate?

From 1993-1997, I was their “CIO” (Chief Information Officer). Had a great team working with me. Given the computers had to be up and running for all those employees, all the time, it had a few challenging moments. The growth was tremendous. I recall we went from about 1000 employees, to 5000. David was a pretty interesting person to work for. He had his style of doing things. He realized we needed computers to handle the volume of business, but still did not like the technology or it’s cost.

I can’t believe they are glorifying this horrible group of people. They fire their employees as quickly as they promise them and AFTER telling them to quit their second jobs! The Seagal family are evil, self righteous, selfish people who step on anyone they need to in order to help themselves! Did everyone forget how David basically told his employees WHO to vote for… the things that go on in his Westgate resorts company are vile and horrible. They care about NOONE but themselves! This family is disgusting!
