THE RAT KING (2010) Short Film: Benjamin Parslow, Alex Parslow

Zach Sanchez, The Rat King

The Rat King Short Film has premiered. Benjamin Parslow‘s The Rat King (2010) stars Alex Rodrick Parslow, Cooper Bombadil, Josh Davis, Courtney Gomez, and Kellie Lou Johnson. The Rat King‘s plot synopsis: “2100. Nuclear war has wiped out most of mankind and left the Earth’s surface uninhabitable. The survivors head underground surviving in a brutal, oppressive society run and monitored by the Company. When a Company satellite crashes, The Company pulls one of its grunt workers, James, out of the lines to retrieve it. Given 16hrs of air and a tracking device, James heads up to the surface but what he finds is no satellite.” The first films that will come to the viewers’ mind when watching this short film are 12 Monkeys and Nineteen Eighty-Four. The Patrol Android (Zach Sanchez) in The Rat King is straight from anime. Many will have unanswered questions at the end of The Rat King but that is not necessarily a bad thing as it calls upon the viewer’s imagination to do some of the work. Watch The Rat King short film below and leave your thoughts on it.

  • Theory #1 If he did not actually go to the surface: “then, the satellite exercise was a ruse to prepare his mind for becoming a cyborg. He basically saw what he wanted to see, to remove his mind from the equation and to allow him to be a ruthless cyborg.”

Theory #2 If he actually went above ground: “then, the lack of oxygen actually killed him, but there is a government control agent above ground, who is retrieving bodies. His body was retrieved to become a cyborg.”

I do not really understand the significance of the actual rat bite (could be nothing). This could definitely be re-watched a couple times.
