THOR: RAGNAROK (2017): Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum & Karl Urban Join Cast

Cate Blanchett Jeff Goldblum Tessa Thompson Karl Urban

Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, and Karl Urban sign on to Thor: Ragnarok. The three stars join a cast that includes Selma veteran Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth, reprising his role as the titular superhero.

Blanchett, who previously earned Academy Awards for her performances in The Aviator and Blue Jasmine, has been cast in the role of Hela, a mysterious and powerful new villain. In addition, Goldblum will play an eccentric character known as the Grandmaster, while Urban will portray Skurge, a fearsome Asgardian known as The Executioner in the comics.

To top off this big announcement, Marvel has also confirmed that Mark Ruffalo will reprise the role of Dr. Bruce Banner/Hulk in the third and final Thor film:

“The continuation of the epic Thor franchise will be powerful and unique, and with the additions of Cate, Jeff, Tessa, Karl, and Mark to the cast we have the makings of his most dangerous and heroic adventure yet,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “The sheer, raw talent each of these actors brings to the screen can’t be quantified. Having any one of them join the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be an honor, and having all of them is incredible.”

Thor’s new cast members join returning stars Chris Hemsworth in the title role for the fifth time; Tom Hiddleston as Thor’s adversarial, adopted brother, Loki; Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award winner Idris Elba as the Asgardian sentry, Heimdall; and Academy Award winner Sir Anthony Hopkins again portraying Odin, Ruler of Asgard.
