TOKYO VICE: Daniel Radcliffe cast in Anthony Mandler’s Yakuza Film

Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe cast in Tokyo Vice. The casting of Daniel Radcliffe in Tokyo Vice answers the question of who will star in the Anthony Mandler directed film. Daniel Radcliffe will play Jake Adelstein, a reporter in Tokyo, Japan. Tokyo Vice is “from a script by playwright JT Rogers. Le Grisbi Productions’ John Lesher and Adam Kassan are producing, and production will start early 2014.”

On Tokyo Vice‘s plot: “American reporter Jake Adelstein who, while working at the Yomiuri Shinbun newspaper in Tokyo, covered the crime beat and locked horns with yakuza boss Tadamasa Goto, called the “John Gotti of Japan. The film is based on Adelstein’s memoir detailing how the journalist’s investigating and finally exposing the notorious gangster exacted a high personal cost and sacrifice which included death threats.”

The memoir in question is Tokyo Vice: An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan. The official book synopsis for Tokyo Vice: An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan:

A riveting true-life tale of newspaper noir and Japanese organized crime from an American investigative journalist.

Jake Adelstein is the only American journalist ever to have been admitted to the insular Tokyo Metropolitan Police Press Club, where for twelve years he covered the dark side of Japan: extortion, murder, human trafficking, fiscal corruption, and of course, the yakuza. But when his final scoop exposed a scandal that reverberated all the way from the neon soaked streets of Tokyo to the polished Halls of the FBI and resulted in a death threat for him and his family, Adelstein decided to step down. Then, he fought back. In Tokyo Vice he delivers an unprecedented look at Japanese culture and searing memoir about his rise from cub reporter to seasoned journalist with a price on his head.

On director Anthony Mandler:

Mandler has helmed vids with Rihanna, Jay-Z, The Killers, and Lana Del Rey. He’s attached to Vlad for Summit/Lionsgate, and Last Days Of American Crime with Oblivion producer Radical Studios.
