First Look at Alicia Vikander in Tomb Raider

Hollywood hasn’t been successful in video game adaptations, but they are attempting to try again in the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot. To give us an idea of how Lara Croft will be in the film, Warner Bros. released our first look of actress Alicia Vikander as the titular character.

We got to see a few set photos from the film, but now we have our hands on some official images of Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. Based on these photos, you can immediately tell that the film is taking cues from the 2013 video game reboot from Crystal Dynamics. The actress recently spoke with Vanity Fair regarding her role as the globetrotting heroine.

When I was asked to take on this role I got really excited—Lara Croft is a truly iconic character.  I think people can identify with her for lots of different reasons, but for me I very much see her as a model for many young women. She’s trying to carve out her place in the world and connect her future with her past. She also has a fantastic mix of traits—tough, smart, vulnerable, plus she’s kick ass! She is also uniquely different to other characters I have taken on previously. It’s a lot of fun trying to get into Lara’s head and the challenge of getting to grips with such a physical role is an element of this project that I find an absolute thrill.

What do you guys think of Alicia Vikander’s look as Lara Croft? Do you think the film will break the video game film curse?
