TRANSCENDENCE (2014): Wally Pfister casts Kate Mara with Paul Bettany

 Kate Mara House of Cards

Kate Mara cast in Transcendence. The casting of Kate Mara in Transcendence (2014) possibly answers the question of who may be playing the person who recruits Max (Paul Bettany) “into the A.I. fold” in the Wally Pfister directed film. Kate Mara will be playing a character called Bree and “is one of the few female characters in the [Jack Paglen] script.”

Kate Mara is great on NetFlix’s House of Cards and was effective in Shooter so I am looking forward to seeing what she does in a sci-fi setting.

More on Kate Mara:

Kate Mara…is an American television, stage and film actress. She currently stars on the Netflix original series, “House of Cards”. She moved from the stage to her first film, Random Hearts, in 1999. Other roles include appearances in Brokeback Mountain (2005), on the Fox television series 24, as computer analyst Shari Rothenberg, and on the American political drama series House of Cards as reporter Zoe Barnes. She appeared in such feature films as We Are Marshall (2006), Shooter (2007), Transsiberian (2008), Stone of Destiny (2008) and The Open Road (2009). Kate is the older sister of actress Rooney Mara.

Wally Pfister was Christopher Nolan‘s cinematographer on many films (Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Inception, and The Dark Knight Rises). Christopher Nolan and his wife/co-producer Emma Thomas are producing Transcendence.

Transcendence‘s plot synopsis: “Two leading computer scientists [, Will and Max,] work toward their goal of Technological Singularity, as a radical anti-technology organization fights to prevent them from creating a world where computers can transcend the abilities of the human brain.”

Transcendence will also star Johnny Depp and Rebecca Hall.
