TRANSFORMERS 4 (2014): A Possible Time Bomb in the Making

Mark Wahlberg Transformers

Is Transformers 4 destined for Disaster? If disappointment was dangerously obvious with a Michael Bay film even if we are talking about post-production/production stage, this is Transformers 4 (2014). The first Transformers film was great; the second one was the worst, and the third one was a little bit better than the second. Now the fourth Transformers film is coming and in all honesty the only thing that allows for it to see the light of day is the financial success of its predecessors. For good or bad (most-likely) Transformers 4 is coming and unfortunately the information released so far is quite dispiriting even for fans and let’s be honest: fans are the ones paying for the Transformers films.

Before this newly released photo of Michael Bay standing next to a robotic-like metal statue alongside the crew, all we had as an update on the film were pictures of the Autobot team in vehicle mode.

The newest released photo is not very inspiring either – we see the main character, Mark Wahlberg wearing casual clothing, hinting that Wahlberg’s scientist character might be very much Sam Witwicky like – an ordinary human who magically gets in contact with gigantic alien robots. At least the fact that Wahlberg is a scientist gives us some light in the tunnel.

As far as it goes for the car photos, they didn’t excite fans positively either. Multiple changes were visible on some of the franchise’s most beloved Cybertronians like Optimus Prime and Bumlebee. Bumblebee was a beautifully painted modern Camaro in the previous three films. In Transformers 4, he is apparently an old Camaro with a pitch black coloration dominating the base of the car with inappropriately placed yellow stripes in the rear. Optimus Prime looks less like the Optimus Prime that fans love – he is more modern, more extravagant and flashier than ever before. Fans all over the Internet have expressed dislike towards both iconic characters’ looks in the new film.

We have a Michael Bay film that looks more or less bad before it has even landed its first trailer. Usually it is the pre-production and the marketing of Bay’s films that actually make the audience go and see them in the first place. Hopefully the trailer will change the tide.
