Wahlberg Under Contract For Next Transformers. It’s official. Mark Wahlberg will be returning to the Transformers franchise for the two more films. While speaking to MTV about his new film The Gambler, Wahlberg was asked if he was contractually obligated for any roles after Age Of Extinction and had this to say, “Yeah, I committed to doing a couple more.”
With the latest installment of the franchise, Transformers: Age Of Extinction earning over a billion dollars at the box office, it was only a matter of time before Paramount Pictures gave the green light to begin production on the next entry into the series. Now that we know Mark Wahlberg is back on board, the biggest remaining question is whether bombastic director Michael Bay will return to helm the next film. Bay recently made it known that he is ready to hand the series over to another director so that he can focus on telling other types of stories.
Although it sounds great that Bay is looking to step away from such a lucrative franchise in order to fully express himself artistically, I wouldn’t rule out his return just yet. Movie studios are loath to disrupt such a successful money making formula and will likely throw a small fortune at Bay in order to guarantee that he remains a significant part of the franchise.
