TV Casting: HOMELAND, THE RETURNED, UN-REAL, SONS OF LIBERTY

Homeland, The Returned, Un-real, Sons of Liberty, and other TV shows have all made recent TV show and TV movie casting news. These shows and movies air on Showtime, A&E, Lifetime, History, and ABC.

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 3, 2014) – Today, SHOWTIME and Fox 21 announced that acclaimed actors Laila Robins (Bored To Death, In Treatment) and Golden Globe® nominee Corey Stoll (House of Cards) have joined the fourth season of the Emmy® and Golden GlobeAward-winning drama series HOMELAND. Robins joins as a series regular in the role of “Martha Boyd,” the United States Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, who is professional and put together, with a ship-to-ship voice and the personality to match. Stoll will guest star as “Sandy Bachman,” the CIA Chief of Station in Pakistan and a rising star in the Agency’s firmament. The series’ fourth season will begin production later this month in Cape Town, South Africa.  The network’s No. 1 rated series with an average of seven million weekly viewers, HOMELAND will return to SHOWTIME this fall.

Laila Robins has appeared in a number of television series including Bored To Death, In Treatment, The Sopranos, Person of Interest, Blue Bloods, Damages and Law and Order, the television movie Too Big To Fail, and as the series lead in Gabriel’s Fire opposite James Earl Jones. Her film credits include Side Effects, The Good Shepherd, An Innocent Man, Welcome Home Roxy Carmichael, True Crime and Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Robins appeared on Broadway in Heartbreak House, The Herbal Bed, The Real Thing and the Tony® Award-nominated play Frozen. Her off-Broadway credits include the quartet of Richard Nelson plays performed in repertory at The Public to rave reviews: Regular Singing, Sorry, Sweet & Sad, That Hopey Changey Thing; and The Lady From Dubuque, Antony And Cleopatra, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Sore Throats, Tiny Alice, Mrs. Klein and The Merchant Of Venice.

Corey Stoll’s television credits include his Golden Globe-nominated role as “Rep. Peter Russo” in House of CardsThe Normal Heart, Law & Order: Los Angeles, and the upcoming series The Strain. On the big screen, he earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for his breakout role as “Ernest Hemingway” in Midnight in Paris. His film credits also include The Bourne Legacy, C.O.G., Non-Stop, Salt, Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, North Country, and the upcoming and highly-anticipated film This Is Where I Leave You. Stoll appeared in the Broadway revivals of A View From the Bridge and Old Acquaintance, and received a 2004 Drama Desk Award nomination for his role in Intimate Apparel, opposite Oscar® nominee Viola Davis.

HOMELAND tells the story of Carrie Mathison (Emmy, SAG and Golden Globe Award winner Claire Danes), a bi-polar CIA officer who plays by her own rules. At the end of last season Carrie, pregnant with the late Brody’s (Damian Lewis) baby, along with her mentor Saul Berenson (Emmy and Tony Award winner Mandy Patinkin), brought a significant and much-needed win for the agency and country at large. Season four will find Carrie assigned to one of the most volatile and dangerous CIA stations in the Middle East where she is back on the front lines in the war on terror. Along with Danes and Patinkin, Emmy nominee Rupert Friend will return for season four, along with Nazanin Boniadi, who was recently promoted to a series regular. HOMELAND tied for the most wins of any program at the 2012 Emmy Awards, honored with six wins including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, and Outstanding Lead Actress and Actor in a Drama Series; and garnered 11 Emmy nominations in 2013.  Additionally, HOMELAND has been awarded Golden Globe Awards, SAG, Peabody, Television Critics Association, AFI and Critics’ Choice Awards.  Produced by Fox 21, the series was developed for American television by Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon, and based on the original Israeli series “Prisoners of War” by Gideon Raff.  Along with Gansa, Gordon and Raff, the executive producers for season four are Alexander Cary, Chip Johannessen, Meredith Stiehm, Avi Nir and Ran Telem.

The Returned (A&E)

Kevin Alejandro is set as a regular opposite Mark Pellegrino in Carlton Cuse’s 10-episode A&E drama series The Returned. Also co-starring in the project, an adaptation of the acclaimed French series, are Sophie Lowe and Mat Vairo. Keith Gordon (Dexter) will direct…Alejandro will play the town’s authoritative but accessible Sheriff Tommy Moran. Lowe plays Lena, one of Jack’s (Pellegrino) two daughters. Vairo plays one of the returned, Simon, a musician who comes back 10 years after his death.

Un-real (Lifetime)

Constance Zimmer (House Of Cards, The Newsroom, Entourage) has been cast as a lead opposite Shiri Appleby in Lifetime’s darkly comedic drama series Un-Real, which gives a behind-the-scenes look at the chaos surrounding the production of a competition dating reality series. She will play the dispassionate executive producer of the unscripted show, replacing Magyn Price, who played the role in the pilot.

Sons Of Liberty (History)

Sons Of Liberty follows a defiant and radical group of young men – Sam Adams (Ben Barnes), John Adams (Henry Thomas), Paul Revere (Michael Raymond James), John Hancock (Rafe Spall) and Joseph Warren (Ryan Eggold)– as they band together in secrecy to change the course of history and make America a nation. Additionally, Marton Csokas is cast as the ferocious Gen. Thomas Gage, Emily Berrington as Margaret Gage and Dean Norris as the brilliant yet mischievous diplomat Benjamin Franklin.

Recovery Road (ABC Family)

Sebastian De Souza (UK’s Skins, Showtime’s The Borgias) has been cast as the male lead opposite Samantha Logan, and Mixology‘s Alexis Carra is set to co-star in ABC Family’s drama pilot Recovery Road…De Souza plays the mysterious, bad-boy type Wes Stewart, another patient in rehab to whom Maddie is immediately attracted. Carra…plays Cynthia McDermott, the high school guidance counselor who discovers Maddie’s problem and sends her to rehab.
