TV Casting: THE EXPANSE, HOUSE OF LIES, Kelly Reilly in TRUE DETECTIVE

The Expanse, House of Lies, True Detective, and other TV productions have made recent TV show casting, TV movie casting, and TV directing news. These shows and movies air on Showtime, Syfy, and HBO.

True Detective (HBO)

Kelly Reilly (Black Box) is finalizing a deal for a regular role, while Michael Irby (Almost Human), Abigail Spencer (Suits) and Leven Rambin (Hunger Games) are either set or close to deals for recurring roles.

Season 2 of True Detective revolves around three police officers, played by Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and McAdams, and a career criminal (Vince Vaughn) who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder. Reilly would play the self-possessed Morgan. Irby is poised to play McAdams’ partner, now named Elvis. Rambin would likely play Sophia, a beauty with a history of drug problems, while Spencer is in line to portray Alicia, the survivor of a sexual attack.

Ex-Nun Comedy (HBO)

The New Adventures Of Old Christine creator Kari Lizer has teamed with The Closer star Kyra Sedgwick for a half-hour single-camera comedy project set up at HBO. Sedgwick is set to star and Lizer will write the untitled comedy

It centers on Kate (Sedgwick) who was a nun in the order of the Sisters of Mercy, San Mateo Chapter, but disillusioned by a lifetime of service to the church and a marriage she no longer believes in, she has walked out on everything she’s known since the age of 17. No longer “Sister Katherine,” she’s turned her back on her old life and now finds herself coming of age, trying to figure out who she is without her vows and what it means to be an ordinary woman. A person who believes in believing, she’ll try to figure out what or whom she’ll put her faith in now.

Untitled Comedy (CBS)

Geoff Stults is set to co-write a multi-camera comedy for CBS as a potential starring vehicle for himself…who will co-pen the script with his writing partner, Dave Whatley. Comedy veterans Joe Port and Joe Wiseman will supervise the script and serve as showrunners.

The Expanse (Syfy)

Dominique Tipper (Vampire Academy), Cas Anvar (Olympus), and Wes Chatham (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) have signed on as series regulars. Additionally, Jonathan Banks (Community, Breaking Bad), Paulo Costanzo (Royal Pains), and Jay Hernandez (Nashville, Gang Related) will appear as guest stars in the thriller’s first season

Tipper plays Naomi Nagata, a native of “The Belt” and the brilliant Chief Engineer of the Canterbury who prefers dealing with machines rather than people. Anvar is retired Martian Navy pilot Alex Kamal, now at the helm of Canterbury. Chatham plays Amos, an Earth-born engineer running from a dark past. Banks plays the veteran Executive Officer of the ice-freighter Canterbury. Costanzo plays Medical Technican Shed Garvy, and Hernandez portrays Miller’s new partner, Havelock, an itinerant Earth cop.

The Women Of The Bible (Lifetime)

Roma Downey…will narrate the two-hour special The Women Of The Bible…The Women of The Bible will retell stories from the Bible and feature interviews with “high profile women in the faith community,” the network said.

The newly announced special will share the stories of Eve, Sara, Rahab, Mary Magdalene and Mother Mary, “with new insights from some of today’s leaders and scholars in the faith community,” the network said. Those interviewees include Christine Caine; Priscilla Shirer, Co-Founder of Going Beyond Ministries; Victoria Osteen, Co-Pastor of Lakewood Church; Eva Rodriguez of the Latino Evangelical Women’s Association; Kay Warren, Co-Founder of Saddleback Church; and Joyce Meyer, Bible teacher and New York Times bestselling author, among others.

House of Lies (Showtime)

The Don Cheadle comedy has enlisted A Serious Man’s Fred Melamed to play the father to Ben Schwartz’s Clyde

Melamed will recur as Harvey Oberholt, to whom Clyde…has a difficult relationship. He arrives on his son’s doorstep with a dying wish that Clyde must consider whether he can fulfill.

He joins a growing list of previously announced season four players including Demetri Martin, Mary McCormack and Valorie Curry.

American Dad (TBS)

Dean Norris…will guest star on an upcoming episode of TBS’ “American Dad”…He’ll play Stan’s new boss in a Nov. 10 episode titled “Big Stan on Campus.” Weitzman said that when Stan faces a leave of absence from the CIA, he finds a job as a campus security guard at Hayley’s community college, where Dean Norris’s character heads the force.
