Stranger Things, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, S.W.A.T., and other TV shows have all made recent TV show news by being renewed for an additional season, cancelled, or had additional episode orders. These shows air on Netflix and CBS.

Stranger Things: Season 2’s plot synopsis: “It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.”

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Netflix has given The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina a two season (Seasons 1-2), 20-episode, straight-to-series order.

Based on the graphic novel by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Robert Hack, the “new project reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.”

Aguirre-Sacasa is writing the script for the pilot and Lee Toland Krieger will be directing the pilot episode.

Haters Back Off

Netflix has canceled Haters Back Off after two seasons.

it appears that Haters Back Off got off a solid start last year, earning a second-year renewal, but in the long run, Ballinger’s huge YouTube following did not quite translate into streaming audience for her Netflix series.

It is unclear whether YouTube, which over the last year entered the high-end scripted space with series that often feature popular YouTube personalities, would possibly step in to pick up Haters Back Off.

Haters Back Off starred Colleen Ballinger, Steve Little, Angela Kinsey, Erik Stocklin, and Francesca Reale.

Mindhunter

Netflix has renewed Mindhunter for a second season.

Mindhunter‘s plot synopsis: based on the book by John Douglas, “How do we get ahead of crazy if we don’t know how crazy thinks? Two FBI agents (Jonathan Groff & Holt McCallany) set out on a sinister investigative odyssey to discover the brutal answers.”

Mindhunter stars Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, Anna Torv, Cotter Smith, Sonny Valicenti, Tyler James Larkin, Hannah Gross, Cameron Britton, Alex Morf, Stacey Roca, Joe Tuttle, Happy Anderson, Jesse C. Boyd, and Duke Lafoon.

S.W.A.T.

CBS has ordered an additional two episodes of S.W.A.T., bringing the season’s episode count to twenty-two.

S.W.A.T.‘s plot synopsis: “Follows a locally born and bred S.W.A.T. lieutenant who is torn between loyalty to the streets and duty to his fellow officers when he’s tasked to run a highly-trained unit that’s the last stop for solving crimes in Los Angeles.”

S.W.A.T. stars Shemar Moore, Stephanie Sigman, Alex Russell, Lina Esco, and Kenny Johnson.

Kevin Can Wait

CBS has ordered an additional two episodes, bringing the season’s episode count to twenty-four.

The series began with James starring as a recently retired Nassau County, New York police officer and father of three, married to Donna (Erinn Hayes). Beginning with season two, the character of Donna has died, and the series’ new female lead is Vanessa Cellucci (Leah Remini), Kevin’s former rival on the force and now his new boss at a security company. While the first season focused on Kevin’s personal and family life, the second concerns his new profession, his relationship with Vanessa, and his adjustment to life as a single parent.

The sitcom stars Kevin James and Leah Remini.
