TV Review: DEXTER: Season 5, Ep. 5: First Blood

Julia Stiles, Dexter, Season 5, Episode 5, First Blood

Dexter Season 5, episode 5 – entitled First Blood – showed that the thirst for revenge has turned into an obsession for Lumen Pierce (Julia Stiles). Dexter (Michael C. Hall) sees the hallmarks of his own derangement beginning in her. She needs some serious, intense therapy and she isn’t getting it. I’m surprised Dexter doesn’t suggest it to her.

It’s funny that Dexter is trying to persuade someone not to kill, not to indulge that desire when that is all that he does, the single thing that motivates the underbelly of his life.

The machete decapitator subplot is heating up but it is not as strong as the main storyline.

The Lt. Maria Laguerta (Lauren Vélez) / Sgt. Angel Batista (David Zayas) subplot was weak but it opened the door to a new sub-character played by Peter Weller being introduced.

Lumen’s final scene during the pat down in the airport was like she was being tortured all over again, having to relive ever moment of it but this time out in the open. It was terrible and great to witness. Lumen is the second best character on the show this season.
