TV Review: SUPERNATURAL: Season 10, Episode 6: Ask Jeeves [The CW]

Jensen Ackles Supernatural Ask Jeeves

The CWs Supernatural  Ask Jeeves TV Show Review. Supernatural: Season 10, Episode 6: Ask Jeeves was, honestly, a bit disappointing. I have to say that this episode was, unfortunately, the type of episode I most fear in a Supernatural season: filler. No new monsters, no real advancement of the season’s main story arc, and – saddest of all – no Castiel (Misha Collins) or Crowley (Mark Sheppard).

Now that’s not to say that the episode wasn’t entertaining. Between “clown college Colette (Pippa Mackie),” Sam’s (Jared Padalecki) inability to fake-flirt successfully, and Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) use of Clue-themed weapons, it was a funny episode for sure. Still, it wasn’t as great as it could have been.

For one thing, it would have been great to have had more of a look into Bobby (Jim Beaver) and Bunny’s (Wendy Abbott) dealings, rather than just the short explanation at the end of the episode. When Bobby’s name came up, I had immediately assumed that the episode would have more to do with him than it did.  I have to admit, I was disappointed.

I also got my hopes up once the brothers realized that they were hunting a shapeshifter. From “Skin” to “Nightshifter” to “Two and a Half Men,” shifter episodes have always been great.  “Ask Jeeves” however, was a little bit lacking. For one, there were none of the awesome transformation shots typically seen in shifter episodes. We didn’t even see Olivia’s (Izabella Miko) eyes flash. Even her death was a bit anticlimactic, foreshadowing though it may be.

Dean’s extra shots when he took out Olivia seemed to be a blatant indication that demon Dean may not be as “cured” as he seemed. In fact, I mentioned in my last review that I thought Dean would be headed straight back to his demon state the minute he actually killed something, and it looks like the season may actually be headed that way. Whether or not that’s accurate remains to be seen, but I certainly hope that next week’s episode focuses more on that aspect of Season 10 than just another monster-of-the-week.
