UNDERWORLD TV Series & 2 Films Greenlit, RESIDENT EVIL, MORTAL INSTRUMENTS, & PERFUME TV Shows Coming

Kate Beckinsale Machinegun Underworld Evolution

Underworld, Resident Evil, The Mortal Instruments, and Perfume are Coming to Television. TV shows based on the Underworld film franchise, the Resident Evil film franchise, The Mortal Instruments book series, and the novel Perfume: The Story of a Murderer are moving forward. It is unclear at this point if the TV incarnations will have any connection to their film incarnation a la the Marvel Cinematic Universe or no connection a la the DC Cinematic Universe.

Underworld director Len Wiseman said at the 2014 New York Comic Con that a television series based on the vampires vs. werewolves franchise is in the works along with a Underworld spin-off (tentatively titled Underworld: Next Generation) and a new film starring Kate Beckinsale.

Regarding The Mortal Instruments and Resident Evil:

Constantin Film is stepping up its TV series business with TV series spin-offs of the “Mortal Instruments” and “Resident Evil” movies…[with a strategic goal to shift from film production to television production]

Constantin exec board chairman Martin Moszkowicz confirmed…“Constantin has a lot of feature film brands and we are moving them into television. For instance, we own the rights to the book series ‘The Mortal Instruments,’ and we just hired a showrunner in Los Angeles”

Other film brands to be adapted into TV series would include “Resident Evil,” which would become a TV series after the next [and last] feature film, and “Perfume.”

Showrunner Ed Decter, whose credits include “Unforgettable,” “The Client List” and “In Plain Sight,” has been attached to the “Mortal Instruments” series, according to unconfirmed reports. The series will move into production next year, Moszkowicz said.

With The Walking Dead hitting record numbers with its season 5 premiere and with the reception that the first seasons of True Blood had on HBO, a Resident Evil TV series should do very well, especially if the series takes itself seriously. Underworld should translate its film audience over to the television effectively. How The Mortal Instruments and Perfume will fair is anyone’s guess.
