Untitled Cloverfield Film Given New 2018 Release Date

The third Cloverfield universe film has been pushed back from its original 2018 release date. The film, original known as God Particle, was previously going to be released on February 2, 2018. Paramount Pictures has shifted the Untitled Cloverfield film from that release date to April 20, 2018.

The Untitled Cloverfield film’s plot synopsis: “it revolve[s] around an American space station that, after an accident with a particle accelerator, suddenly finds that Earth has vanished altogether. Things get stranger when they then pick up traces of another space station nearby.”

Julius Onah‘s Untitled Cloverfield film stars “David Oyelowo (Selma, Interstellar), John Krasinski (13 Hours, The Office), Elizabeth Debicki (The Night Manager, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Concussion, Beyond the Lights), Chris O’Dowd (The IT Crowd, Moone Boy, Thor: The Dark World), Ziyi Zhang (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and Daniel Bruhl (Captain America: Civil War, Rush).”

The Untitled Cloverfield film was written by Oren Uziel and then rewritten by Doug Jung. Uziel had this to say about the writing of the film:

It was written before 10 Cloverfield Lane and the expanded Cloverfield universe even existed as a thing. It was a spec that I wrote probably a year or so after Shimmer Lake, so it definitely existed as its own science-fiction. And then after years of, you know how scripts kind of hang around—people like them but for whatever reason they decided to make it and then suddenly everything fell into place with J.J. [Abrams], Bad Robot, and Paramount.

We rewrote during production, but I’m not sure what it means to be part of the expanded Cloverfield universe, other than knowing what kind of quality and feel you’re gonna get from something that’s coming out of Bad Robot and J.J.

Looking at the film’s that the Untitled Cloverfield film will be released against, it looks as though the Untitled Cloverfield film may win that weekend at the box office: Overboard, Rampage, Super Troopers 2, Duck Duck Goose, Dolphins, Game Over, Man!, The House of Tomorrow, Tully, and Finding Your Feet. Rampage looks as though it will be the only real competition for the Untitled Cloverfield film.
