Valiant Comics Creating a Cinematic Universe with DMG Entertainment

Valiant Comic Universe

DMG Entertainment Teams with Valiant to Create a Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios and DC may have some new competition as Chinese film distributor DMG Entertainment has made a nine-figure partnership with Valiant to bring their comic books to both film and TV.

The New York Times announced Sunday night that Valiant Entertainment would soon be bringing the likes of Shadowman and Bloodshot to the big screen. DMG Entertainment last funded another comic book movie Iron Man 3, which turned into a huge success so it’s no wonder the company plans to invest more in the comic book genre with Valiant Comics.

DMG CEO Dan Mintz says that “Comic superheroes are the most lucrative and sought after IP for movie franchises, so taking a stake in the last independent massive comic universe is a strategic investment for DMG that will produce movies and TV that are both appealing and relevant to a global audience.” He also added, “We are excited by the opportunity to bring these incredibly engaging characters and their stories to the big screen.”

“Valiant’s iconic stable of intellectual property and world class management team coupled with DMG’s unmatched skill with entertainment brand building in China make a formidable partnership,” said Valiant Chairman Peter Cuneo. “We will look forward to introducing some of the most popular superheroes of all time to the world’s fastest growing market across all media forms.”

With what was said here, it looks like Valiant and DMG is looking to create a cinematic universe for these comic book heroes for both the big and small screens. DMG President Wu Bing seemed to think so based on this:

Audiences in China and the rest of the world are hungry for heroic stories that they can more easily relate to…and with the international box office accounting for the biggest piece of the total gross, the time is right for a truly international superhero franchise. DMG will bring its unique global perspective to the task of transforming the Valiant Universe into the first international comic-movie universe.

Currently in development from Valiant are big screen adaptations of Bloodshot, Shadowman, and Archer & Armstrong. DMG will be co-financing these projects and help out with international distribution.
