Universal and Imagine have acquired Vampire Chronicles. Anne Rice‘s entire The Vampire Chronicles book series has had its rights acquired by Universal Pictures, Imagine Entertainment, and Brian Grazer. “Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci…will produce. Imagine President Erica Huggins will oversee the series on behalf of the company and Bobby Cohen will exec produce.”

The Vampire Chronicles is a series of novels by Anne Rice that revolves around the fictional characterLestat de Lioncourt, a Frenchnobleman turned into a vampire in the 18th century.

Most of the books are written predominately in first-person perspective with only a few being in third-person.

As of November 2008, The Vampire Chronicles had sold 80 million copies worldwide.
