20th Century Fox has released the second movie trailer and movie poster for War for the Planet of the Apes (2017). The second trailer showcased moments that may make War for the Planet of the Apes the best of the three new Planet of the Apes films. There aren’t many franchise films that successfully build upon the foundations that their previous films laid, not in a meaningful way at any rate. The new Planet of the Apes film is one of those films that successfully builds on the foundation laid by its predecessors.

With that in mind, this trailer opens with a call-back to the first film in the franchise.

In the trailer, it looked like Caesar (Andy Serkis) was trying to exist in peace but humanity will not stop hunting him and his fellow apes. The two most fascinating points in the trailer were the little girl (Amiah Miller), a friend to the apes that was unafraid (possibly bridge between man and ape in the film) and the guerrilla that fought beside the human soldiers (an Uncle Tom scenario).

It seems as though an atrocity happens to the apes at the hands of man, led by Colonel (Woody Harrelson), in the film that turns the apes from a defensive stance to an offense one.

This trailer also showed what was motivating the Colonel and all of the actions that he took and would take against the apes.

War for the Planet of the Apes‘ plot synopsis: “In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.”

Matt Reeves‘ War for the Planet of the Apes also stars Terry Notary, Karin Konoval, Alessandro Juliani, Chad Rook, Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval, Michael Adamthwaite, and Timothy Webber.
