Starz‘s Black Sails (2014) season 1, episode 1: I. stars Toby Stephens, Luke Arnold, Hannah New, Jessica Parker Kennedy, and Hakeem Kae Kazim. Black Sails‘ plot synopsis: “The pirate adventure centers on the tales of Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and his men, and takes place twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic ‘Treasure Island’…Flint, the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, takes on a fast-talking young addition to his crew who goes by the name John Silver.Threatened with extinction on all sides, they fight for the survival of New Providence Island, the most notorious criminal haven of its day — a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.”

Starz promotional efforts for Michael Bay’s pirate drama “Black Sails” include deals with traditional pay-TV providers as well as Apple, Amazon.com, Microsoft Xbox and Machinima — all of which will offer the first full-length episode for free on Jan. 18, one week before premiering on Starz.

Starz will offer the first episode on its VOD service, Starz.com, the Starz YouTube channel and on its Facebook page. The segment will also be available on Amazon Instant Video along with additional featurettes, as well as iTunes, Xbox Video and Maxim magazine’s website. Cable and satellite partners prepped to offer “Black Sails” for free across multiple platforms include Comcast, DirecTV, Dish Network, Time Warner Cable, Cox and Charter Communications.
